UP IN ARMS OVER PRESIDENTS "SAME GOD" STATEMENT
Tuesday , December 02, 2003
Evangelical Christians across America are up in arms over a statement
President Bush made during the joint press conference in England
with Prime Minster Tony Blair. The President made the statement
that Christian and Muslims worship the same God.
A reporter was present who had noted that Bush frequently expressed
the view that freedom is a gift from “the Almighty,”
but he questioned whether Bush believed “Muslims worship the
same Almighty” as the President and other Christian do.
The London Telegraph reported that the President said: “I
do say that freedom is the Almighty’s gift to every person.
I also condition it by saying freedom is not America’s gift
to the world. It’s much greater than that, of course. And
I believe we worship the same God.”
The President’s equivalence of the Judeo-Christian God and
the Muslim god brought shock and dismay to evangelicals worldwide.
Of course many agree that he is not a theologian. But young Christians
in high school know that evangelicals and Muslims do not worship
this same God. We would not be at war if we worshiped the same God.
Muslims are instructed to kill Christians and Jews.
President Bush who does discuss his faith with reporters has defended
Islam many times as a religion of peace. If you have never read
the book “Islam”
by Serge Trifkovic you must. It identifies the rise of Islamic fundamentalism
as the greatest danger to “Western” values since the
end of the Cold War.
Under Islam there can be no separation of Church and state. Islam
is away of
life and the faithful must accept and affirm their surrender to
Allah.
Mr. Amir Taheri, an Iranian author, points out that Bin Laden believes
Muslims should live in non-Muslim countries to further the cause
of Islam and speed up the end of the infidels.
Ambassador James Bissett, former head of the Canadian Immigration
and Foreign Service states that as Western democracies refused to
acknowledge the danger of Nazi and Communist ideologies, our refusal
to confront militant Islam may cost us dearly.
The confusing comment by the President may not cost him votes but
it will not help him either. A phone call or letter from you is
equal to 300 or 400 letters and phone calls. Take a minute and express
your opinion.
