YOUR FACE JUDGES AND THE TEN COMMANDMENTS
Tuesday, July 22, 2003
Isn’t it interesting that on June 26th the 3rd U.S. Circuit
Court of Appeals Ruled that a Ten Commandment plaque that has hung
in the foyer of a Pennsylvania courthouse has the court’s
blessing to remain for the sake of historical preservation and is
not an endorsement of religion. Judge Edward Becker stated, “We
do not believe…that there can never be a secular purpose for
posting
the Ten Commandments or that the Ten Commandments are so overwhelmingly
religious in nature that they will always be seen only as an endorsement
of religion.”
This appeals court overturned a lower court ruling stating that
the plaque must be removed because it is inherently a religious
statement.
Now on July 1, only a few days later, the 11th U.S. Circuit Court
of Appeals in Atlanta ruled that Judge Roy Moore’s 5,380 pound
Ten Commandment Monument violated the First Amendment’s Establishment
Clause.
Tom Parker, a spokesman for the chief justice, said Moore would
appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court” – and “that
this case is far from over.”
Those who belong to atheist organizations, like Freethought Society,
the ACLU, and advocates for a strict separation of church and state,
all applauded the decision of the Circuit Court of Appeals. The
fact that the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the Ten Commandments
plaque in the Pennsylvania courtroom meant nothing to these atheist
anti-Ten Commandment groups. They were more concerned with the big
case that would ultimately end at the U.S. Supreme court.
“This is a slam dunk for our side,” said Barry Lynn,
executive director of Americans United for Separation of Church
and State. But does Barry Lynn and his atheist friends ever stop
to realize that the country in which they live
is the greatest nation on earth because of the Ten Commandments
and their place in civilization and their historic place in our
law?
The reason the seal from Richmond County Georgia was allowed to
remain was because, according to the unelected judge, the text of
the Ten Commandments was not visible. Give me a break!
Do these “in your face” liberal judges, who should
all be replaced, actually believe that the Ten Commandments, upon
which all civilization and law is based – should now after
thousands of years be removed by them as if they had some new revelation?
This is a battle that will draw a line in the sand and determine
future religious freedom.
