LEGISLATION
THAT ACKNOWLEDGES THAT GOD EXISTS
Thursday, March 11, 2004
I am part of a National Coalition formed to acknowledge that God
exists in America and to allow expressions of faith. A letter from
this coalition has been sent by former Congressman William Dannemeyer
to each member of the House and Senate in Washington expressing
these views and requesting Congress to enact legislation now pending
in the House and Senate.
Expressed in the letter is the fact that the current Congress has
a unique and historic opportunity to correct a wrong interpretation
of the First Amendment by decisions of the U.S. Supreme Court, which
have stolen our Judeo-Christian heritage.
Some of the decisions are these:
• Enacting “a wall of separation between church and
state;”
• Banning nondenominational prayer from public schools;
• Removing the Ten Commandments from public school walls;
• Striking down a “period of silence not to exceed
one minute…for mediation or voluntary prayer;”
• Censoring creationist viewpoints when evolutionists viewpoints
are taught;
• Barring prayers at public school graduation.
The coalition believes the principle problem facing America is
a spiritual one. Since 9/11, we have heard our leaders ask God to
“Bless America”, but if we really got serious we could
ask why should God bless America? For over two generations we have
been teaching our children in public schools that God does not exist.
We are encouraged that now in the current Congress legislation
has been introduced to allow public expression of faith and to acknowledge
that God exists in America. Several Congressional leaders have authored
and introduced legislation to produce a Statute or a Congressional
Amendment, which will retain “God in the Pledge of Allegiance”;
retain “In God We Trust” as our national motto; allow
voluntary prayer in public schools; and allow the display of the
Ten Commandments in public buildings.
Also, as I shared with you recently the Constitution Restoration
Act has been introduced into Congress.
Please pray specially for these pieces of legislation that acknowledged
God and
with help returns us to the God of the Bible and the God of our
Fathers.
“Blessed is the nation whose God is the
Lord.” Psalm 32:12
