BUSH FOR, CHENEY FOR, BUT BAYLOR UNIVERSITY EDITORIAL AGAINST TRADITIONAL MARRIAGE
Friday, March 05, 2004

I hope you saw the wonderful front page pro-family ad running in newspapers last weekend thanking the President for taking positive action to pass a Constitutional Amendment to preserve marriage as an institution to uphold the union of one man and one woman. It is going to take much work in Washington and in the states to stop this radical attempt to redefine marriage in America. The world is watching what the U.S. will do and the world will be influenced by our decision.

Please call on President Bush to continue to speak out on the importance of marriage between one man and one woman. Vice President Dick Cheney said yesterday that he supports President Bush’s announcement calling for a federal Constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriages even though one of his daughters is a lesbian.

“The President has taken the clear position that he supports a Constitutional amendment,” Cheney said, on MSNBC and “I support him.”

I am grateful the Vice President could make this statement. It took courage but that’s what we need – men and women of courage and conviction.

How desperate we are for leadership to stand up for what is right.

In November, Christian Pollster George Barna reported that approximately 40%
of young adults between the ages of 18 and 38 believe it is “morally acceptable”
to have a sexual relationship with someone of the same gender.

So with that in mind, we should not be shocked to hear that the editorial board of the Baylor University “Lariate” compared opposition to same-sex marriage to discrimination based on skin color or religious beliefs. The paper’s editorial board approved the position by a 5-2 vote totally disrespectful of the student body, campus policy, or the community at large.

It grieves my heart that we have allowed our youth to reach this low moral level.

We must step up to the plate and begin to teach our children that it is an unselfish commitment to God and to each other in traditional marriage that is the glue that holds one culture and even our civilization together.

“What God has joined together, let no man separate.” Matthew 19: 6
