SENATE RESOLUTION 595: A MARRIAGE CONSTITUTIONAL AMMENDMENT
Monday, March 01, 2004

Banning same-sex marriage in Georgia failed last Thursday by three votes as House Democrats supported gay marriage. The vote was 117-50 for the ban on homosexual marriage, but to become a constitutional amendment, it must have a two-thirds majority or 120 votes to pass.

The senate has already approved the measure so the vote on Thursday could have brought final legislation approval and the ban would have been set to go on the ballot for the voters to decide in the November election.

Several Democrats did not vote including House Speaker Terry Coleman and several Democrats were excused. Democrats voting against the ban included Representative Janette Jamieson of Toccoa, Georgia, a rural community and home to our own W.R.A.F. radio. Voice your opinion!

Today, Monday, March 1, it is expected that Representatives will vote to reconsider the amendment proposal. Reconsideration requires approval of 91 of the 180 members of the House.

The motion is expected to pass at which time House Rules Committee Chairman Calvin Smyrna (D-Columbus, GA) said his committee would send the resolution back to the House for a vote.

Even though Georgia law already prohibits same-sex marriage, supporters of the constitutional amendment say they fear it could be overturned by “activist judges”.

Just Friday, California’s highest court refused to invalidate the more than 3,400 marriage licenses granted to same-sex couples in San Francisco or to bar the city from allowing more.

This homosexual movement is being likened to the civil rights movement of Black Americans. That is wrong. The black civil rights movement was a moral cause. The homosexual movement is an immoral cause that is sinful and contrary to the will of God. To approve homosexuality means we have discarded the Bible as our ultimate authority of belief.

I am sure homosexuality was fashionable in Sodom too, but God destroyed Sodom and He will judge America also!

Up until 1961, every state in the union outlawed sodomy.

Must we reject two thousand years of church teaching for contemporary opinions ignorant of history and disrespectful of authority?

It is the responsibility of God’s people to tell the truth and stand for the truth in love. God wants to heal the wounds and forgive the sins of our land.

Repentance is necessary to prevent America from becoming the next pathological Sodom and Gomorrah.
