| SPEECH
BY SENATOR ZELL MILLER - PART I
Wednesday, February 18, 2004
Yesterday, I shared with you about the two bills being introduced
in Congress. H.R. 3799 introduced by Congressman Robert Aderholt
(R-Al) has been referred to a committee on the judiciary and Senator
Richard Shelby (R-Al)
has introduced S.B. 2082, identical legislation in the United States
Senate.
Senator Zell Miller spoke on the Senate floor in support of The
Constitutional Restoration Act. He began by quoting from the book
of Amos. He said Amos wrote that God demanded moral purity, not
rituals and sacrifices.
Senator Miller spoke these words: “This blunt speaking, moral
conscience of (Amos) warns in chapter 8, verse 11… as if he
was speaking to us today, that the days will come, saith the Lord,
God, that I will send a famine to the land; not a famine of bread
or a thirst for water, but of hearing the Word of the Lord and they
shall wander… to and fro…to seek the Word of the Lord
and they shall not find it.” Has anyone more accurately described
the situation we face in America today?”
Senator Miller quoted Arnold Tohemby’s book “A Study
of History”. Senator Miller said Tohemby saw “the famine
of hearing the Words of the Lord. Whether it is removing a display
of the Ten Commandments from the courthouse or of a nativity scene
from a city square, whether it is eliminating prayer in schools,
eliminating “under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance,
or (making) a mockery of a sacred institution of marriage between
a man and a woman or, yes, telecasting around the world –
made in the U.S.A., filth masquerading as entertainment, the culture
of far-left America…in the Super Bowl half time show…”
Miller asked: “How many of you have ever run over a skunk
with your car?…I have…and …the stink stays around
for along time…so the scent of this event will long linger
in the nostrils of America.”
Then Senator Miller spoke of his disgust over the way the flag
was used during the half time Super Bowl show. He said, “This
is the same flag we pledge allegiance to, or the same flag draped
over the coffin of our dead young warriors killed while protecting
that kid’s (Rock’s) bony butt. He should be tarred,
feathered, and redden out of this country on a rail.”
“The America people are waiting and growing impatient with
us because they want something done. I’m pleased to be a co-sponsor
of S. J. Resolution 26 along with Senator Allard and others proposing
an amendment to the Constitution of the U.S. relating to marriage,
and S 1558, The Liberty Restoration Act… that includes the
Pledge Of Allegiance and displays of the Ten Commandments.”
“I join Senator Shelby with the Constitution Restoration
Act of 2004 that limits the jurisdiction of Federal courts…in
doing so I stand shoulder to shoulder not only with my Senate co-sponsors,
and Chief Justice Roy Moore of Alabama, but…with our founding
fathers.”
