FALLOUT- GOOD AND BAD
Friday, February 13, 2004
The Super Bowl “to do” has already effected the decisions
at ABC, NBC, and CBS because of the public outcry and because of
the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) investigation.
NBC deleted a scene in the episode of “ER” of an elderly
woman with her upper body exposed.
CBS delayed the Grammy Awards to stop any indecent language or
images from entering homes.
ABC planned time delays on its Oscars broadcast.
ESPN cancelled “Play Makers,” a drama about a pro-football
team.
Dave Haverty, President of “Preview Family Movie and T.V.
Review” said public pressure and the F.C.C. investigation
should get credit for the self-censorship of the networks.
It would be a huge blow to CBS if the NFL cancelled its Super Bowl
contract and went somewhere else.
This self-censorship is good and needed, but the marketers of this
immoral trash are working now as to how to top the Super Bowl stunt.
One executive claims the Jackson episode was “extremely successful”
and another partner in the New York public relations agency LaForce
and Stevens has announced “we love stunts at our agency”
then she referred to Jackson as the one who “opened the door
for more people to take risks.”
In the four days following the event Jackson received twice as
many mentions
in the press and with only weeks ahead of her first album release,
she has broken the all time search engine record.
With these graphic sexual happenings one can see why children are
having
sexual problems, why parents are threatening to turn off the T.V.,
why marriages and families are struggling.
Those who viewed the Super Bowl half time got a dose of the coarsening
of America in living color. Immorality and disrespect was on center
stage.
Don’t let up on the pressure you applied to the F.C.C. and
to the N.F.L.
Keep pressure on the networks too. All that matters is their ratings.
When you
turn off your T. V. set – they get the message. It is time
someone else took charge of our culture. Hollywood has been in control
long enough.
Blessed is the man that walk not in the counsel of the ungodly.
