COUNTY, GEORGIA VOTES NO ON TEN COMMANDMENT APPEAL
Wednesday, February 11, 2004
Habersham County, Georgia voted Monday night February 9th, before
a large crowd at the County Commissioners meeting, not to go forward
with an appeal on the Ten Commandments ruling by Federal Judge William
C. O’Kelley to have the Ten Commandments removed.
It was a sad day in Habersham County as three of the five Commissioners
gave lame excuses for not standing up for the Ten Commandments.
First, they blamed it on not wanting to use taxpayers money. Four
members of the Habersham County Ten Commandment Support Committee
had already pledged $100,000 to help with the project, most of which
would have been raised in the county and surrounding counties for
the defense. Never was it brought out that money had been contributed
by private donation for previous projects in the county.
Then when not using the tax dollars had been exhausted, the three
Commissioners claimed they would be breaking the law.
The truth of the matter is that they never wanted to stand for
the Ten Commandments and a group of citizens spoke against the appeal
at the meeting accompanied by Bo Turner, the preacher who joined
with the ACLU to file the original lawsuit.
The three Commissioners that consistently voted against the Ten
Commandments seemed beholden to the group of citizens calling for
their
vote against the Ten Commandments. They pretended to sob and reached
for
Kleenex, but they still voted “no”.
How grateful I am that our Founding Fathers were not so weak. They
pledged their lives and their fortune and stood firm for Creator
God. America has been blessed because of their commitment to Him
and to the truth.
Commissioner Chan Caudell believes in the separation of Church
and State and it is determined by his remarks that he is a secular
humanist. Two other Commissioners, Lynn Dockery, and Doug Vermilya,
followed his lead and his rhetoric. Dennis Fish and Greg Popham
stood strongly for God and the Ten Commandments at all costs. God
bless them for their public stand for Chris.
If God has not chosen already to remove His protection from America
due to our
great national sins of abortion, sodomy, pornography, and the destruction
of the
family, He will raise up a standard for the ultimate goal of God
being acknowledged in government and for limited judicial legislation
from another source. I believe He will, as there are many courageous
men and women of faith across the United States willing to stand
for righteousness.
It was a sad day in Habersham County, Georgia and clearly a time
for new leader- ship to represent the desires of the people.
