HOUSE VOTES TO WITHDRAW FROM THE U.N.
Tuesday, February 10, 2004
While the Utah House of Representatives passed a resolution urging
the U.S. Congress to consider with- drawing the United States from
the United Nation, the Bush administration’s new budget includes
a $1.2 billion, 30-year loan to renovate the aging United Nations
head- quarters and build a new annex.
State Department spokesman Richard Boucher said the loan request
was a “practical way to move forward” with U.N. Secretary-General
Kofi Annan’s plan to renovate and modernize the U.N. headquarters.
I’m sure he did!
The loan to fund the U.N. Capital Master Plan still must win approval
by Congress and the U.N. General Assembly. There will be a 5.54%
interest rate, which is to be paid by all U.N. member States.
The U.N. General Assembly will approve, I’m sure. Where else
could Kofi-Annan get $1.2 billion to renovate the U.N. building
in New York?
As for Congress, I don’t know what they will do. Maybe if
they knew that homosexual – rights groups are mobilizing support
for a landmark United Nation’s resolution that would classify
abuse on the basis of sexual orientation as
a human rights violation, they would pause longer to consider.
In 2003, when the resolution was first introduced to the U.N. Human
Rights Commission, the San Francisco International Gay and Lesbian
Human Rights Commission (IGLHRC) called it “a historic opportunity
to advance [homosexual] issues in international human rights law!
The International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission said
the
United Nations Commission on Human Rights Resolution on Sexual Orientation
and Human Rights, is the “first in history of the U.N.
I believe the Utah House of Representatives has it right. The U.S.
needs to withdraw from the U.N. Their resolution passed 42 –33.
It now goes to the Utah Senate. Congressman Ron Paul who spoke to
the Utah House and Senate has proposed for several years in the
U.S. Congress his American Sovereignty Restoration Act (H.R. 1146),
which urges the U.S. to with draw from the U.N.
“The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he
delighteth in his way.”
